The SCANN Lab is officially externally funded!
We are thrilled and humbled to have received funding from several different sources over the past few months. And in case you’re wondering – yes, we’re hiring.
In August 2020, Dr. Weisberg received an R21 from the NINDS with Dr. Arne Ekstrom at the University of Arizona. The grant funds work on the neural underpinning of variation in spatial navigation behavior.
Along with Dr. Alina Zare at UF, Dr. Weisberg received a UF AI Catalyst grant. This research will use machine learning techniques and a data-driven approach to connect variations in structural properties of the human brain to facets of behavior.
The SCANN Lab also received two grants supporting research into navigation behavior in older adults and those with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
In December 2020, Dr. Weisberg and co-PI Dr. Natalie Ebner in collaboration with Dr. Dawn Bowers received an Ed & Ethel Moore Alzheimer’s disease research program from the Florida Department of Health. This grant will fund fMRI and real-time fMRI neurofeedback approaches to explaining navigation strategy choices in older adults and patients with mild forms of dementia.
And in January 2021, Dr. Weisberg received a K01 from the National Institute of Aging. This grant will apply network neuroscience methods to investigate the use of various spatial representations (maps, scenes, and words) and how the use of such formats changes through the course of aging and in Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Natalie Ebner is the primary mentor along with co-mentors Dr. Mingzhou Ding and Dr. Steven DeKosky, and Dr. Dawn Bowers and Dr. Dani Bassett as collaborators.
